In the article, All's Not Well in Land of ?The Lion King,? by Margaret Lazarus, the author over exaggerates an animated classic, investigating as to whether or not the movie is politically correct and morally right. The essay examines and stereotypes the movie, and comes to various misguided conclusions. Lazarus defines the hyenas and the lion, Scar symbolic, and declares that Disney already has gays and blacks ruining the ?natural order.? She also draws to the conclusion that Disney manipulates small children's minds; encouraging them to believe that ?Only those born into privilege can bring about change? (pg. 440) Lazarus is constantly searching for the underlying meaning throughout the movie, and fails to enjoy it. After a complete analysis of the movie she fails to understand the central idea of the movie. She then proceeds to mock the concept of a young heir to the crown to fighting and standing up for what is rightfully and morally his. She maintains that the movie ?The Lion Ki ng? is a metaphor for our society, suggesting that the nation only supports the concept that only the strong do survive in the world. So often a carefree animated tale is scrutinized and psychoanalyzed, and the pureness and innocence are stripped away from it. I fully disagree with Lazarus. ?The Lion King,? was a wonderful, original animation that, broke the Disney stereotyped classics, of a hero that saves a beautiful girl in distress. ?The Lion King,? features a story of doing the right thing, learning to fight for what is right, to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. ?The Lion King,? is an animation, to over analyze in such a fashion as Margaret Lazarus does, is ridiculous and a shame. Lazarus is seeking too much meaning out of this simple tale. The cartoons main purpose is to entertain, not to set all the things wrong in the world right. In September 1999, Stetson school found it extremely difficult to contain Saunders and it was decided that Saunders was becoming hazardous to younger children and was transferred to North Carolina’s treatment facility. However, Saunders was transferred to Top East Emergency Shelter in Taunton instead. Saunders es caped from the facility on December 30, 1999 and was found by police some hours later walking barefoot in the streets of Taunton. After escaping from Top East Emergency Shelter he was never readmitted and the Department of Social Services instructed the police to take Saunders to a foster home in Attleboro. Neither police nor the Department of Social Services informed the woman at foster home that he young man had serious psychological problems. As a result, the woman manager did not take extra measures to protect other children from his sexually compulsive behavior. Consequently, Saunders sexually assaulted a seven year old son of the foster woman a few feet away from his mother in the foster’s home living room. As a result, Saunders was charged of battery and indecent assault of a child below fourteen years, abuse and attempted rape of a child less than sixteen years. Following the above incident in 2001, Saunders pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years and one day i n prison, with additional twelve years probation. After serving his term in prison, Saunders was eventually released. However, Saunders sexually assaulted a six year old boy in New Bedford Public Library, and he was charged again with battery and indecent assault on a child below fourteen years, enticing and raping a child below sixteen years. Our idea of belonging is a result of the choices that we make. We feel a sense of acceptance wherever we choose to belong. This is explored in Peter Skrzyneckis poem Feliks Skrzynecki and St Patricks showed the ides of alienation and belonging. They are shown through various techniques such as an allusion, direct speech and many more poetic techniques. Feliks Skrzynecki is a poem that shows a tribute to Peter Skrzyneckis father. Through the use of powerful and vivid imagery, the poet successfully conveys Feliks as a man who is comfortable, content and secure in his own identity. In this poem, concepts of belonging and not belonging occur within place, family, community and culture. The first stanza emphasizes the idea of belonging. Feliks sets standards ‘of his own minds making’. He is comfortable in belonging to his own world, his garden, family and cultural heritage. This is further emphasized through the use of the simile ‘ loved his garden like an only child’ which demonstrates the love he possessed for his garden. The garden can also be interpreted as Feliks constructed world: a place he escapes to in order to feel a sense of belonging. The garden is also the reward for his hard work. Skrzynecki’s poem ‘St. Patricks College’ displays how a sense of belonging is influenced by external forces. For someone to belong to something they must make their own decisions in life, understand their surroundings and build relationships with those around them. These qualities are lacked by Skrzynecki in ‘St. Patrick’s College’ which resulted in him not belonging. Skrzynecki was sent to this school because his mother was ‘only wanting, â€Å"what was best†Ã¢â‚¬â„¢. The direct speech is a cliche as every parent wants what is best for their child. The irony of the situation was that ‘for eight years’ sending Skrzynecki to St. Patrick’s College ‘Wasn’t â€Å"for the best†. He did not understand the ways of the school which led to his lack of belonging. The repetition of the phrase ‘for eight years’ reinforces how long the alienation and detachment lasted for, the feeling of not belonging did not change for eight years. The use of the personal pronoun ‘I’ throughout the poem gives a dreary, detached tone which emphasises his loneliness. No relationships with students, teachers or anyone else at the school were formed over his time there. The time at the school was useless as highlighted by ‘I could say the lord’s prayer in Latin, all in one breath. ’ He claims that as what he received from eight years at the school, a useless skill. Skrzynecki found it so hard to belong to St. Patrick’s College because the decision to go to the school was not his own, he did not understand his surroundings and he did not build any relationships with those around him. In Conclusion the ability to belong can be affected by understanding, choices, culture, relationships and experience. In the poem â€Å"Feliks Skrzynecki† showed the sense of belonging in the respective place, like his garden. In contrast, the poem â€Å"St Patricks College† showed that Skrzynecki lacked in building any relationship with those around him. Peter Skrzynecki used various to show the alienation and belonging in the poems â€Å"Feliks Skrzynecki† and St Patricks College†.

There was a time when people used to pride in their honesty, albeit it wasn't always profitable. Our values in Nigeria have been greatly degraded. What happened? In early years, parents had time to be parents and their children were their greatest legacies. Sadly, that's no longer the case in Nigeria. Everyone is chasing a career and economic gains. Of course, there's nothing wrong with such things. The problem is that these things are now more important than raising honest child ren. As a result, we have a society of educated rogues. There's only so much that a school or teachers can do to help her child who has not been taught from home. Indeed, the need for well-bred children, eventually adults, cannot be over emphasized. In the Yoruba culture, such an individual is referred to as " Omoluabi " which means one who is well brought up and is aware of his responsibilities to himself, his family and the society. The place of parents and parenting as unfortunately been taken by the media and outsiders. The parents say that they are working to secure a better future for their children. But, from what I've seen in schools, the future of these kid s as well as that of the country doesn't appear very promising. Th ey end up achieving the reverse . Whether consciously or unconscious, the results are not beautiful to say the least. By being overly career and wealth focused, these parents have exposed their children to the vices of the media. Unfortunately, they are not even there to help them filter the things they watch, read and listen to. We have also adopted a "it's not business attitude" where nobody corrects anybody if it does not have a direct impact on them. We simply shrug and say, "Oh well, it's not my business." Forgetting that in the future the entire society will reap the fruits and we are part of that society. I will be exploring the roles of parents in the increasing rate of examination malpractice as. To do so effectively, I will consider what point we are at and how we got here. I will also explore solutions to the prob lem of examination malpractice and the roles of parents towards solving a problem that they helped to create. However, I will face some challenges. For instance, as much parents as have a huge role to play in this problem, there are other causal agents that cannot be completely ignored. I hope to be able to to uch lightly on these others with out drifting away from my central theme.
